To-day this new right wing Government in the country where i live has just brought into law boot camps for young offenders.From the age of 12 years if you are what they consider to be a repeat offender the youth court will have the right to imprison you for a period of 3 months,in a military style camp,with the harsh reality of what is dished out in army prisons.
The Government says this will instill in the young offenders a more sociable attitude and respect for others and their property, and will rehabilitate the offender to be a more productive member of society.This form of punishment has had no effect and never will effect the offending of those in our society, who are disenfranchised by a system that uses and abuses peoples labour and good will.However this legislation has been made law by the Government at the behest of a pressure group of concerned well heeld property owners, who in their opinion justic has let them down and have been lobbying politicians for harsher sentencess, they call themselves The Sensible Sentecing Trust.
This form of Pitchfork and Torch approach to justic has never and will never have the desired effect, that of rehabilitation.A society divided by the have and have nots will always be plagued by what is termed as crime,and untill society takes a more human approach to its structure and the effects of its aims no amount of more police harsher laws and penalties will remedy that ill.
